Meet Lyvly's Balham Ambassador: Parris

August 26, 2019 - Read time 2 mins

Parris describes himself as authentic, direct and loyal. The perfect combo for a guy you'd want to show you round your new neighbourhood.

He's been one of our most engaged members since moving to in Summer 2018, sitting on both the membership committee and ambassador crew

Favourite thing about Balham?

"It's got everything you want from city living - there's a great mix of urban and green spaces. We're really close to three big parks - Wandsworth, Clapham and Tooting Common - as well as a great bustling pub scene. The transport links are great as well, so it's handy for getting around London."

Which member(s) have you bonded with most?

"A lot of the guys i've connected with best aren't actually from Balham. There's Ryan, who I met at a brunch at one of Lyvly's flat in Dalston, which was in January early this year. Mike Stead is one of my fellow foodie group members, so we regularly meet up with the rest of the group and there's a lot of bonding over great dinners and even better red wine.

Also I'm great friends with Becky, who really welcomed me to the community. She invited me to her place for a Sunday roast, not long after I moved in and we've carried on hanging out since. We were part of a Game of Thrones viewing crew for the final season earlier this year too."

How would you welcome a new member to the area?

"I'd probably take them to Brickwood Coffee shop to introduce them to the neighbourhood, it's a bit of a Balham institution. I also love hosting people at my place, we've got a good outdoor area, which is good for a bbq in the summer - it's a great way to relax and get to know other people from the community."

Top three tips for things to do in balham

"1. I love the green spaces around the area, but if you twisted my arm, I'd probably say Tooting Common is my favourite for a chilled out cycle or a lounge on a warm afternoon.

2. Go to the Gurka Diner and order the famous lamb knuckle. Michel Roux Jr takes his family there, so you know you're in good company.

3. Brunch-wise, it's probably MILK, mainly for their baked eggs (best in South London IMO) followed by a lamington, with an honourable mentions to Brickwood for the banana bread and hash bites."
